  90. Thank you for your interest in Coeli - Electric Planisphere.

  92. Coeli utilizes Super VGA graphics via the VESA standard interface to
  93. generate highly realistic views of the heavens anywhere in the world.
  94.  
  95. However, due to the vagaries of 'standards' in the swiftly changing
  96. world of advanced graphics ( which the IBM PC was never originally
  97. designed to handle ), your system as it is currently set up may not allow
  98. Coeli to function optimally.
  99.  
  100. You should be prepared for possible initial disappointment.

  102. But have no fear: with some perseverence you will be able to configure
  103. your system's video so that Coeli's skies display faultlessly.
  104.  
  105. You will need a VESA DRIVER in order to do this.
  106.  
  107. The best universal VESA driver is undoubtedly UniVBE from SciTech
  108. Software.

  110. You may already have a copy of UniVBE - if you're a gamer, you'll
  111. probably have received one bundled with an Electronic Arts title.

  162. with your setup, especially if you own a recent Pentium system.

  165. If odd events occur on your screen within the first few minutes of
  166. starting Coeli, don't panic:

  168. simply wait until things appear to settle, and then press [ESC]. If this
  169. achieves nothing and the screen data is completely unintelligible, you
  170. may have to reset your computer by either switching off and on again, or
  171. by pressing [CTRL]+[ALT]+[DEL].

  237.                     INSTALLING COELI - ELECTRIC PLANISPHERE
  238.                     ---------------------------------------

  240.          Your Coeli package is contained in a self-extracting file.
  241.  
  242.          This file is called COELI379.EXE
  243.  
  244.          Coeli cannot be run straight from HD floppy or CD ROM. To
  245.          install Coeli, just follow these simple steps:
  246.  
  247.          1) first create a new directory on your hard drive from Dos or
  248.          Windows. We suggest you call the directory COELI-3, but of
  249.          course anything will suffice. To accomplish this from the Dos
  250.          command line you would type the following:
  251.  
  252.                 MD COELI-3
  253.  
  254.          In Windows, you would double-click the File Manager icon and
  255.          then select Create Directory from the File menu.
  256.  
  257.          2) Copy all the files from your distribution media into the
  258.          new directory.
  259.  
  260.          3) Switch to the new directory and unpack the main archive
  261.          according to your supplier's instructions (it will probably
  262.          have a .ZIP or .LZH extension).
  263.  
  264.          From the Dos prompt, you might proceed as follows (assuming
  265.          your distribution medium is a floppy disk currently in drive
  266.          A, the supplier's archive is called COELI.ZIP, and your hard
  267.          disk is labelled drive C):
  268.

  277.          4) As mentioned, your Coeli package is contained in a
  278.          self-extracting file called COELI379.EXE. Simply run this like
  279.          a normal program from your new directory. All the Coeli files
  280.          will be reconstituted, and you will then be able to delete
  281.          COELI379.EXE from your hard disk, as it will have served its
  282.          purpose.
  283.  
  284.          NOTE: the foregoing steps will not be necessary if you
  285.          obtained your package on a diskette with COELI379.EXE in the
  286.          root directory unarchived. If such is the case, you may also
  287.          have received a program called INSTALL.BAT which should
  288.          completely automate the installation process explained here.
  289.  
  290.          5) If you have not already done so, install your VESA driver
  291.          by typing its name. If it loads without error, you'll be home
  292.          and dry and all you will need to do is start COELI from the
  293.          Dos prompt or from inside your favourite shell. Coeli runs
  294.          under Windows 3.1 too, but more slowly.
  295.  
  296.          Please note that you should always install a VESA driver prior
  297.          to using Coeli. A universal VESA driver may have been provided
  298.          on the same disk volume on which you acquired Coeli. Otherwise
  299.          please see the end of the manual for suggestions on how to
  300.          obtain one. Coeli 3 will not function without a VESA driver!
  301.  
  302.  
  303.          WINDOWS 95 USERS:
  304.  
  305.          There hasn't been much time to check Coeli's functionality
  306.          exhaustively within Microsoft's newest operating system.
  307.          However, with a 2 Mb Diamond Stealth graphics card (S3 chipset)
  308.          and UniVBE version 5.3 installed, there don't seem to be any
  309.          problems.
  310.  
  311.          Simply drag COELI.EXE from the Explorer onto the desktop, and
  312.          a shortcut should create itself there with Coeli's own icon.
  313.          If the correct icon doesn't appear, right-click on the new
  314.          desktop icon, select Properties, Change Icon, then Browse.
  315.          While you're about it, go to the Memory tab and ensure 'Auto'
  316.          is visible in all the selection boxes. Check out the Screen
  317.          tab at the same time: Coeli should run as a full screen
  318.          application. Under Program - Advanced, the following boxes
  319.          should have ticks in them:
  320.  
  321.          'Prevent MS DOS-based programs from detecting Windows' and
  322.          'Suggest MS-DOS mode as necessary'
  323.  
  324.          If problems occur the first time round under Win 95, take note
  325.          of the resulting error messages, and then start fiddling
  326.          around with the Properties settings until you begin to get
  327.          positive results. The most likely cause of faults will be
  328.          failure to install a working VESA driver...
  329.  
  330.          We recommend that you glance at the manual before proceeding
  331.          further, either the Windows Write version (COELI.WRI), but
  332.          preferably the Ascii version (COELI.TXT).
  333.  
  334.          For example, to access COELI.TXT from Windows, just
  335.          double-click on it under File Manager and it will be displayed
  336.          in Notepad.

  338.          To read the same file under Dos, enter the following at the

  344.          The complete Coeli package contains a number of text files,
  345.          all designed to help you get started with the minimum of fuss.
  346.          Have a browse through any item with the .TXT or .DOC extension

  622.          If you haven't already done so, please print out a regular
  623.          Coeli registration form by pressing [r] from within the
  624.          program. A copy will be saved with the filename REGISTER.FRM
  625.          in the folder or directory you reserved for Coeli.

  627.          On the form you will notice a line beginning 'Your ref' and
  628.          followed by an ident code. This code is your unique personal
  629.          reference and you will be required to enter or paste it into
  630.          your online customization form in your Web browser. It is your
  631.          order's most important component bar E-mail address and credit
